Mexico is one of the largest countries in Latin America, in terms of spatial extent and demography, with an area of 1.960.189 square kilometers (excluding its islands and seas) and a population of 122.3 million.

It is the 3rd largest economy in America, and 2nd in Latin America. In 2016, its gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.3% compared to the previous year. The economy is oriented towards exports relying on free trade agreements with many countries. Technology, financial services, tourism, entertainment and food are the most important industries for the national economy.

The country has the second largest newspaper industry in the region. In 2016, newspaper circulation in Mexico surpassed 1.3 mmdd; in 2020 it is expected to rise to 1.4 mmdd. The number of Internet users in Mexico rose to 65 million in 2016, representing 59% of the population (according to AMIPCI). Internet penetration and its potential for growth is encouraging online businesses and media outlets, such as The Huffington Post and El País, to launch digital content proposals aimed at Mexican audiences.

According to a study presented by CICOM (Confederation of the Communication Marketing Industry in Mexico), the Mexican business communications industry, including Public Relations, was valued at 10 billion dollars in 2015, and generated 1.7 million jobs.
